If your believe politics is for the birds, this novel is a must read.  It contrasts the enjoyment of a realistic birding adventure with the reasons why so many middleclass American’s believe they have become political victims, and when it’s time to vote Anyway they choose, they lose”.

The primary mission of this novel is to explore the bi-partisan political tone in our country in hopes of encouraging middleclass American’s into becoming politically involved.  To research facts with an open mind so we can protect our country from experiencing the ten most common elements of fascism found within Franco, Hitler and Mussolini regimes:

1.      INSTILLING FEAR:

They instilled fear in the general public to create a national need to eliminate a perceived threat.

2.      PROMOTING PROPAGANDA:

They promoted propaganda using scripted response to emphasize patriotic unity.

3.      FOREGOING CIVIL RIGHTS:

They persuaded the public into foregoing their civil liberties in the interest of patriotism and national security.

4.      CONTROLLING MEDIA:

They controlled the media, and often fabricated news stories supporting their political and business special interest agendas.

5.      PRETENDING MORAL GOOD:

They used religion to manipulate the public into believing they were the protectorates of their countries moral good.

6.      SUPPORTING SPECIAL INTERESTS:

They created a self-serving mutually beneficial business/government relationship.

7.      DIMINISHING RESOURCES:

They plundered their countries national resources and diminished populous wealth through political manipulation.

8.      SUBVERTING ACCOUNTABILITY:

They misused their authority to protect an inner circle of business and political interests.

9.      CONTROLLING ELECTIONS:

They manipulated elections through media control, and used smear campaigns against opponents.

10.  INCREASING MILITARY:

They set aside their countries domestic needs to increase their military as an excuse to wage preemptive wars of economic choice.

Whenever middleclass Americans gather, their talk usually turns to politics.  They passionately express loyalty for their political home team in true sportsmen like fashion.  They bitterly criticize those nasty conservatives protecting big business special interests, or those bleeding heart liberals giving away our hard earned tax dollars to people who don’t want to work and abuse our welfare system.

The more they talk, they agree conservative and liberal lines have become blurred, and express concerns that our middleclass appears to be callously exploited by politicians seated on both sides of the isle.

This story includes Robert McCain, an ex-Marine and college biology professor, and Janet Taylor, a social worker and student.  Professor McCain takes his class on an exciting weekend adventure looking for late summer birds in the dunes surrounding the Great Lakes.

The professor makes analogies of predatory birds to those he believes harm our countries middleclass and poor for profit.  He also believes special interests control our media, and questions if our democracy still protects the quality of Life for all American’s, or has undergone an insurrection turning us into a commercialized fascist regime supporting the stock portfolios of a few Crows, Jays, Cowbirds and Vultures.

Professor McCain questions why Jay Congressional members seated on both sides of the isle allowed American companies to outsource our jobs.  He then recalls the 226,000 millionaires our President called his “BASE” received the same tax credit as the 127 million tax filers earning under $140,000.

He's reminded that the millionaires received their credit on stock dividends, and that companies increase stock values every time they lay off thousands of Americans, and relocate their jobs to third world countries.  Countries where they can exploit labor, avoid paying employee health care, and can pollute our world’s environment without concern.

Professor McCain believes many in Congress are millionaires reported to be earnings between 12 and 16 percent on their stock investments.  He realizes 16% doubles an investment when compounded over five years, and considers the possibility that some Congressional members are a part of the bi-partisan BASE that’s been enriching their stock portfolios by trading our livelihoods for profit.

The professor also believes a prudent person would consider our Constitutional Right to Life, Liberty and Pursuit of Happiness, would include our ability to earn a fair wage so we can care for our families.  If our Lawmakers knowingly allowed business and foreign special interests to harm the livelihoods of millions of Americans, they would have performed a wanton Betrayal of Public Trust; an act found in the dictionary under the word treason!

Class members contemplate why Democrat House members demanding fairness in Florida’s 2000 election couldn’t get the needed signature from a single Democrat Senator.  They agree millions of American’s now share the perception that members of our Congress knew Bush intended war in Iraq. Members of Congress who profited from contractors and energy interests by borrowing billions, increasing our national debt to over $124,000 for every American family.

Professor McCain believes Americas’ middleclass no longer has the luxury of remaining mindless Democrats and mindless Republicans.  Citizens who would be demographic profiled, and propaganda matched to their specific area likes and dislikes so they could be deceived into voting for another Hitler if he was running on their parties’ ticket.

He also believes the only way our democracy can survive is for us to stop our laws from being corrupted and confused into a mixed bag of legal tricks.  This will allow us to finally identify the special interest motivated tricksters, and put a well-deserved end to their political careers.

The professor becomes so upset over a friend losing his job to outsourcing, he writes his Congressional Representatives, and identifies several changes he believes necessary to protect our democracy, our livelihoods, and return some sanity to the way our elected conduct business:

PROTECTING OUR DEMOCRACY

Middleclass Survival Guide:

1.      All Bills passed into Law must be limited to having a single purpose. No more unrelated (PORK BARREL) add-ons that confuse the intent of a Bill, and provide special interests billions.

2.      The First Amendment provides for the unrestricted “Right to Petition our Government to Redress Grievance.” This Petition is now and always has been a formal action in Law, and available through the Courts.  It does not support actions of Lobbyists seeking economic benefit for special interests by providing Lawmakers economic and/or political favor. In business these actions would be considered payoffs and kickbacks.  Our founding fathers never intended for the American public to be egregiously harmed by those who condone these actions, and this form of self-serving unacceptable and un-American behavior must cease and desist for our country to survive.

3.      People running for public office need too be middleclass candidates, including Accountants, Book Editors, Doctors, Engineers, Fireman, Nurses, Policeman, Salesman, Social Workers, Teachers, and Union Workers, Etc.. Normal everyday middleclass American citizens who are willing to sign an AFFIDAVIT agreeing to vacate public office if they “Betray the American Public Trust” by breaching the above items.  Middleclass candidates who will protect all American citizens, and not the one percent Californians who received $12 billion in tax rebates, while they cut health care entitlement programs for millions of our countries retired senior’s and poor.

Professor McCain believes those who would enter our country illegally do so in bad faith, and present an affront to the majority of American citizens. The same affront people in all foreign countries have towards those who cross their boarders illegally.

He realizes ten to fifteen million undocumented foreigners rioting in western states, taking wanted American jobs, bankrupting our welfare system, holding allegiance to their country of origin, and flying their foreign flag over the soil thousands of Americans died defending, makes our having national security totally futile.

He wonders if those lawmakers undermining our national security and betraying our public trust by promoting illegal immigration to decrease American wages, and improve special interest profits, have totally forgotten the essential elements of American citizenship -

Theodore (Teddy) Roosevelt -

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American, and assimilates himself to us.  He shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin.

But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American... There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all.

We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty, and that loyalty is to the American people."
